Outings!

I love planning outings! As in!
Sometimes, I think I even love PLANNING it more than the actual event itself!
Weird, right? Hehe

Unfortunately, as much I want to travel (especially with my family because they would be the one paying! hehe), I couldn't do much traveling this year because of my medical internship at DOH programme, where we rotate around the different specialties around East Ave Medical Center, Heart Center, Lung Center, Phil Children's Medical Center, and National Kidney Institute... and Amang Rodriguez (though not exactly a hospital, as we will be divided and become assigned doctors to a local health clinic).

So, thankfully, our August rotation has Saturday half day and Sunday free. My DOH internship group is going to bond, right before we go to the much-awaited OB rotation (ugh!), where we will stay at EAMC for 2 months on (gasp) September and October (which are the "BER" season, where lots of babies are born... count 9 months backwards, and these would be the cold months, where it would be nice to cuddle and warm thyself)! After the OB rotation, we would have the Medicine rotation on November and December (I guess that's no Christmas family vacation for me huhu and I was the one who BOOKED their tickets to Coron! Huhu). Hence, it will be MONTHS before we can rest again. That's why, we got ourselves a weekend to go out and have some fun before digging ourselves in toxicity when we go back to EAMC.

They wanted a beach outing (Darn! I'm a mountain kinda girl, but it's okay. I still love planning outings.) particularly at Laiya, Batangas. They originally thought of Virgin Beach Resort, where one of them went last summer. I told them that there were many other different resorts, and I volunteered to research on them hehe

I will try to post my final "research" paper here, in case anybody's interested
BTW, we are 13-14 in a group, so I mostly concentrated on bigger accommodations :)
Laiya, Batangas Beach Resorts - candidates for our resort: Virgin Beach Resort, Triple G Resort, Les Caraibes (our winning choice for this outing), Sigayan Bay Beach Resort, Palm Beach Resort, Blue Coral Beach Resort, Sabangan Beach Resort, Laiya White Cove, Punto Miguel, Kabayan Beach Resort
Rent a Van - contact list and numbers for renting a van (also the price list given to me for 2-way trip manila-laiya-manila)

Okay, it's 1130 again. Past my bed time. I was hoping to start sleeping early...

Accomplice

If you were to runaway, who would you go to?
Are you going to go to your closest friends? Probably.
But... that would be the first place that your parents would look for, right?

It was a weird day yesterday.
Some friends from the past suddenly came into my life, and asked for my help. It was all so sudden, they just need a little help getting out. I wasn't even sure what was happening or why I did it, but I helped them. I just heard the urgency in their voice, and though we haven't been communicating for several years (and some discrepancies and disagreements last time that we saw each other), I trust that their decision is correct and I just did it, I helped them get out. I wasn't even sure if this was really serious, or this was just a game. But I played along with it, and followed their instructions. When we got out and it was "safe", that's when I had my explanation: child abuse. I would have ran away too in their situation.

As we waited for the phase 3 of their plan, waiting for one of their friends to pick them up, we talked for a while about what's happening with us. It has been a long while, and we tried to catch up. I suddenly felt very nostalgic, looking at all the experiences we had together (there were many ups AND downs). I just kept on thinking if we weren't really friends for some time, I don't think they would have come running to me.

Which is a pretty good idea actually. Because her parents knows that our families aren't communicating, and suddenly they asked helped from me! I think it would be a while before they even thought about asking us for anything...

List of Email Scammers

Here are the list of companies and details that I found out to be fraud using the Email Trace system, meaning the email address from where they sent it is actually different from where they claim to be the company is coming from. (Darn it! I would have saved myself lots if I just knew this from the start!)

Everyone knows that it's so easy to create an email account on the web using Yahoo, Google, Hotmail, etc. So stealing money using new emails happens a lot! Pretending to be yahoo.uk etc! Hmph!

Go on and google up your prospective sellers! Look on their reputations, names, contact info if they are scammers before sending anything. There are many other sites with list of scammers.

How Not To Be Scammed

Shopping online? Seems so convenient isn't it? And it's sometimes way cheaper, too!
But before you go and send that money, here are some tips not to be fried!

1. First, research about the company that you will be buying from. Google their company name, contact person, even email address and type scam (e.g. "Orient Trade" Scam ). Sometimes, as easy as that, you get to know if the seller is a scam or not. You will find blogs, lists, forums of people telling their experiences with such sellers. You could also ask them what ever questions you may have.

2. Try to trace their email. Scammers easily create a new identity, a new email (especially with lots of free accounts such as yahoo, hotmail, google, etc), which could be created from anywhere in the world. For me, I use Email Trace. They have a box there, and I could copy and paste the email address heading. Sometimes, it's only accurate to the country, but that's fine with me (it said that I'm surfing from Rizal, but actually I'm from QC). I have some potential sellers saying they're from UK, but they're actually from Nigeria (where majority of scammers live). It's just a little hard to trace, when the seller is Chinese :).

3. Try to verify online their authenticity. For me, I try and ask for the seller to take an actual photo of the item that I am buying, requesting for him to write his company name as background. I also tell him to send an actual picture of the serial numbers, etc.

Another buyer told me, he wants to see an actual photo of the delivery receipt with his name on it and the total price, with the items that he's buying.

4. If you've researched, verified, and convinced yourself that he's ligit, then the next step: Payment! Trust me, there's nothing like COD if you live in the same country and can do meet-ups (actually most of the above things I'm not so strict on when I know I could easily contact and meet the seller).

Western Union and Bank Wire Transfers don't have protection! NEVER SEND MONEY through that unless you really KNOW and SEEN this person. It cannot guarantee anything. They are just the messengers, and once the money was delivered, they basically cannot do anything. Even if you complain to them, give them evidence, there is really nothing that they can do... Especially if it's an international transaction. Just wish and pray that karma will come. Scammers insist on this payment method because you won't catch them once they got your money. They claim to have no other modes of payment? That's bull! If they're a big company that serious in making their customers happy, there is always a way!

If the transaction is from eBay, and you pay using PayPal, it's easily covered by the Buyer Protection Program. So, you will... eventually received your item (sometimes it takes so long because of the customs). However, take a look at that package and test it before you go and rate your seller. Sometimes, there are defects. And if there are complaints or if you didn't get your package or the seller doesn't reply to you after you paid (which happens a lot for those scheming $%&*@), you can go to PayPal and file a resolution dispute. (I experienced this, so I should know.)

If the transaction is outside ebay, and you are using PayPal, there is still a chance of Buyer protection, though I haven't tested it out yet (I am still in the middle of a resolution dispute conducted outside eBay).

5. Next step: shipping! If there is an option to choose shipping, avoid using EMS at all costs! Especially if you live in the Philippines! Try to google "EMS Philippines" and you will see lots of blogs and forums with complaints on the corruption of the Customs and the length of unnecessary time standing by in the Post.
A friend told me FedEx is still the best, though it's really more expensive. But hey, better safe than sorry right? I'm telling you now, once you still have the chance.

Because I'm now in a middle of a resolution dispute, because either the seller didn't send the items yet (but he did send me the tracking number already; just that the status haven't been updated in a week! I'm getting white hairs from worry!) Or it really is here in the Philippines, but since it's EMS, I will get it in a month's time! Geez...

Yup, it was actually all that worrying in my mind that prompted me to write this blog and share my "wisdom"...

First Post

I always like researching on the internet, finding out about things.

It could range from food to movies to resorts and especially when I want to find out about places that I would go to. Blogs are the way to go when looking for opinions. They are unbiased and detailed on what's the real deal without getting paid, like advertisements. It's also more personal and people can see the humanity.

I've been trying to write about things, but most of which I don't publish! I usually publish the only ones that I am sure and safe of. Well, at least now, I can, right?

Less fear for me :)
